Brand new very rare Euro 02S 6-speed transmission for VW Mk4 Golf, Jetta, and New Beetle with 1.8T engines. LKA transmission code. The 02S is unique because it allows you to convert your existing 02J 5-speed into a drop in 6-speed kit. You keep your existing clutch, starter, shift box and linkage, axles – everything! Conversion requirements from 0A4 style 02S (which does not have a vehicle speed sensor) to 02J style with VSS requires the following:
An adapter for mounting the Mk4 shift cable holder onto the 0A4 and 02S transmissions (02S 6 speed uses 0A4 part number case halves). The 0A4 is an evolution of the 02J, but they did move 2 of the 3 shift cable holder bolt holes, which is what this adapter addresses for those retrofitting the transmission into a Mk4 or older.
You can fabri-cobble your own adapters. We’ve done it with parts of the bracket for the power steering pressure line where it attaches near the starter.

The last thing is there is no vehicle speed sensor (Note: Our pic is from one we swapped to have a VSS). On 2002 and newer Mk4s with VDO clusters, that’s an easy fix without needing to swap. Simply changing the right 0 to a 1 inside the cluster’s eeprom allows it to pick up vehicle speed via CAN bus from the ABS module, just like mk5 and newer cars do from the factory. We have a long winded youtube video on it, this was with a TDI 02S. We want to do a shorter video on it soonish.
Will also work on 1999.5-2001 models if you swap the transmission case to one from an 02J with the VSS.
Generally a new 02J 5-speed runs about $1800. A kit to convert it from an 02J to an 02S runs about $1600, before labor. This is all set up from the factory ready to go. Because it is a brand new part we do not require a core; though we do send you a label to get it back in order to recharge our core bank.
